A pair of glasses. A hearing aid. A wheelchair.

For a child, this is the difference between being left behind or fully participating in school.

Assistive technology can make it possible to see the board, hear the lesson, and be in the classroom to learn alongside friends.

Why Messika supports ATscale and Global Citizen

The story begins long before the Maison existed, with a family whose values were shaped by love, resilience, and a deep sense of responsibility. For Valérie, disability has always been profoundly personal. Growing up alongside a younger brother with a disability, Valérie witnessed not only the challenges that come with it, but also the strength, tenderness, and dignity that can flourish when a family chooses compassion over limitations. This experience left an indelible mark on Valérie and on Valérie’s father — a mark that would later guide the Maison’s commitments.

Their family story is also closely tied to Namibia, a country whose landscapes, people, and resources have shaped the very identity of the Maison. It was in Namibia that Valérie’s father founded André Messika Ltd, the Maison’s jewelry workshop — a place built on craftsmanship, opportunity, and trust. Over time, this workshop became more than a workplace: it became a symbol of partnership between Messika  and the communities who make its creations possible.

Central to this partnership is the Windhoek Manufacture, a state-of-the-art cutting and polishing factory recognized as the largest employer of persons with disabilities in Namibia. Its mission goes far beyond industry excellence. It champions empowerment by ensuring that workers with disabilities are not only valued but are also stakeholders in the company’s future. To honour this commitment, 25% of the company’s shares have been donated to local staff, strengthening a model built on dignity, inclusion, and shared prosperity.

For the Maison, supporting a global call to action through ATscale is a natural continuation of this story. The organization’s mission resonates deeply with the family’s values and with the Maison’s long-standing ties to Namibia. By amplifying this cause, the Maison aims to take part in a global movement: one that opens doors, removes barriers, and allows every individual to live with autonomy and possibility.

In standing behind this campaign, the Maison is not simply supporting an initiative. It is honoring a family legacy, strengthening its bond with Namibia, and helping build a world where disability is met not with limitation, but with opportunity.
