Assessment, advocacy and collaborative planning for improved access to assistive technology

Map of Nepal

Objectives of the programme: To enable assistive technology support and investment by generating baseline data, building political will, and integrating assistive technology into national programmes, including a landscape analysis, awareness raising, advocacy, strategic integration of ATA-C findings and priority list revision.

Programme description: ATscale worked with Helen Keller International to assess and improve the assistive technology landscape in Nepal. This included carrying out a capacity assessment (ATA-C), revising the existing priority assistive product list, undertaking investment cases and cost analysis for selected assistive products, and integrating findings into new rehab and assistive technology objectives for the National Rehabilitation Strategic Plan. During the programme, an earthquake led the government to consider and improve planning of assistive technology as part of their emergency response.

Programme results:
With the support of ATscale partners, the government of Nepal has ratified the National Assistive Product lists (APLs)
