ATscale has supported the development of a five-year strategy for the scale-up of this regional role. This strategy will serve as a foundation for further investment in regional AT market-building efforts, aligning with ATscale’s broader objective of scaling up regional AT distribution hubs in Africa.

A research study, launched in 2023, is assessing the feasibility and impact of providing mobile phones to individuals with hearing and vision impairments. The study aims to generate data on mobile-based assistive technology usage and qualitative feedback to inform future accessibility design, programmes and policies that facilitate access to mobile technology as assistive technology.

The Emergency Assistive Technology (AT) Preparedness project will leverage Wheels for Humanity’s extensive experience managing a global AT supply chain, strong partnerships with NGOs and UN agencies, and expertise in emergency rehabilitation and assistive product provision to improve access to essential, lifesaving resources during humanitarian crises.
