Building a Pipeline of Countries for Assistive Technology Investment

Map of Mozambique

Objectives of the programme: To build momentum for assistive technology investment by engaging the assistive technology Technical Working Group (TWG), including the approval of the National Priority APL, the draft development of Mozambique's first assistive technology guidelines, and investments in local production capabilities.

Programme description: ATscale worked with CHAI to assess and improve the assistive technology landscape in Mozambique. This included creating an assistive technology subgroup in the existing Disability Working Group, drafting assistive technology guidelines and developing the first national priority assistive products list. The programme also invested in local production capabilities at the Orthopaedic Centre in Maputo.

Programme results:
The National Assistive Products list (APL) was expanded to include 44 products across mobility, vision and hearing domains.
CHAI and the national technical working group for assistive technology developed assistive technology guidelines establishing comprehensive standards for assistive technology accessibility and quality in Mozambique.
