Hearing aid service delivery approaches
While over 400 million people could benefit from hearing aids, fewer than 20% have access to them. This is largely driven by a scarcity and poor distribution of ear and hearing care (EHC) specialists, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
To narrow this gap, the WHO proposes a task-sharing model where trained non-specialist health workers (e.g., community health workers, nurses) deliver primary hearing services under the supervision of EHC specialists.
